Where Does Presence Affect Your Firm?

In professional service firms, people are your biggest variable. What they’re like, and how they act, affects landing work, growing relationships, brand consistency in the client experience, and leadership’s ability to align teams to strategy. They say all ships rise with the tide, and Dean thinks of ‘presence’ as the water that rises to elevate your firm, talking here about how to think holistically about elevating the human factors of presence for greater success.

Presenting the four pillars of a working professional service business presence – everyone knows Sage Presence. We teach presence; we’re often thought of by where you use us most. If you use us to help you win a project pitch, a sales pitch, a shortlist interview, or a project presentation, you think of us as the sales pitch experts, the interview prep coaches – great! We do that. Other people use us for networking and deepening relationships, forming the relationship, growing the relationship, and getting that relationship to become a new business opportunity. You know, we’re the networking people, too, to some. To others, we look at the client service experience, and they know that we look at a brand and translate that down into human behaviors. What are the behaviors that are consistent with that brand so we can create the customer experience, the client experience that we promise, so that there’s this direct through line? I’m going to use a football analogy. Take football – the coach is maybe the strategic team, the leadership, the marketing team has the football; the marketing team is the quarterback who throws that football. The ball is our brand promises, and we better have professional service people who do our service, who are running out in the field, who know where that ball’s coming down, and they catch that ball because they run it into the end zone and create a client experience that’s consistent with the brand promise, which was consistent with our marketing, which was consistent with our organizational strategy. Some people know us as the brand translators, and others know us for our leadership and executive presence coaching to help people present and align their teams to strategy. And what I want to point out about all of this is presence isn’t locked in any one of those things. When you look at the flow of all aspects of business, particularly in professional services, you’re going to find in all of those zones of selling, growing relationships, creating the client experience, and leadership, they all involve presence. What we’re here to be as a presence partner with your firm – sure, you can use us to grow your relationships or win your business or face that leadership presence – but the real purpose here is to look at the organization as a whole and ask a simple question: where does presence affect your success? And rather than being in one of those zones – you win it, grow it, be it, lead it – it’s how can we look at your organization and find out where presence makes a difference and then draw from those four pillars of how you win your business, grow your relationships, how you be the brand, and how you lead this organization, and assemble together a tailored solution. All ships go up as the water level rises; we’re looking at the presence partnership as a way to raise the water so all ships rise. So, when you think of Sage Presence and when you think of presence itself, don’t look so much for the one or two zones that it fits. Look in your organization and ask one simple question: where does the presence of our people affect our success? And that is where you can elevate the people inside of those four pillars of your professional service business, and we are here to help you help those people rise.
