Development Isn’t Always About Fixing a Problem

It’s easy to think of professional development as fixing a problem. But forward-thinking leaders recognize that it’s often about fulfilling a successful trend. [Music] I was talking to a senior leader at an architectural firm today and was reminded of a fantastic reason for why firms should build the skills of their team now this firm was led by a few leaders who are very forward-looking and they’re recognizing that they are growing they’re heading into larger venues their folks are speaking to bigger more powerful audiences and Leadership is recognizing we need to be up to the task of speaking to these audiences that we’re heading into we need to be who audiences are expecting us to be in the near future so this is a really important way to think about yourself as a professional as you head into your future and it’s a really important way for you to think about your firm as it heads into the future you want to look at your existing momentum and the existing direction that you’re headed into you want to make sure that you are being who you need to be in the very near future in order to fulfill on expectations both internally and externally so I want to encourage all of you to think along these lines both for yourself as a developing professional and for your organization that you are responsible for developing into the future
