What’s Your Vibe?
Hey everyone—Pete here. I’ve got a simple but powerful question for you: What is your vibe?
I know—that’s not a super specific question. But it’s an incredibly useful one to think about, especially when you’re networking, meeting people for the first time, or interviewing for new opportunities. The way people experience you—your energy, your tone, your presence—is a big part of what they take away. So, it’s helpful to know: what are you like to be around? What are you like to talk to? What’s it like to work with you?
Why Your Vibe Matters
I was at a networking event a few months ago and met a lawyer who was also there to build relationships. He was clearly uncomfortable—quiet, self-conscious, and getting in his own way. And I don’t think he realized it. The truth is, many of us don’t always recognize when our own vibe is what’s holding us back.
How to Discover Your Vibe
Here’s the solution: start paying attention to what you’re like when you’re most comfortable—when you’re with friends, when you’re relaxed, when you’re at your best. You can reflect on this yourself, but you’ll get even better insights if you ask the people who know you and like you best.
Yes, it might feel uncomfortable or a little outside your comfort zone, but try it anyway. Ask someone you trust: “Hey, what am I like when you enjoy me the most? How would you describe me? What’s my vibe?”
What You’ll Learn
When you do this, you’ll probably learn things about yourself that you didn’t know. You might hear about quirks, body language, or word choices you weren’t aware of. You might also discover a strength or two that you didn’t fully appreciate before. All of this is incredibly useful for your professional growth.
The more you understand about how you come across, the more intentionally you can show up—especially in the moments that matter most.
So, Ask Yourself—What’s Your Vibe?
Take the time to learn about your best self so you can choose that vibe when you need it most. Because when you’re aware of your presence, you can shape it—and that’s how you build stronger connections and make a lasting impression.
