Shift the Spotlight Off Yourself

A lot of people struggle with fear, stress, pressure, and anxiety when they have to get up in front of a group and present. Here’s a simple idea that can turn that pressure way down: your presentation is not about you—it’s about who you help.

We talk about this constantly at Sage Presence, but it can be hard to feel when all eyes are on you. When you step up front, it’s natural to think you’re the one on the line.

See Your Audience’s Before-and-After

Try reframing it. Your audience is currently in a situation without the information you’re about to share. If you give them that information, you move them to a better place. That is the journey you’re guiding them on.

Think about: – the situation they’re in now, without your insight – the situation they’ll be in after you give it to them

Your job is to help them make that shift.

Caring Shifts Your Attention

When you genuinely care about your audience, your attention naturally moves off of yourself and onto them. And when your focus is on helping them instead of performing for them, your pressure drops—and your presence elevates.

Success Is Helping Them Get Somewhere Better

If even a portion of your audience walks away in a better place because of something you shared, how is that not success? You don’t have to worry about your reputation in that moment—their situation is what matters, and your knowledge can help them.

Make Your Next Presentation About Them

Walk into your next presentation committed to taking your audience somewhere good. Shift your focus from “How am I doing?” to “Am I helping them move forward?” When you make your presentation about them, you end up looking even better.
